Milena Punzi is a cellist, composer, and audiovisual performer whose work moves fluidly between contemporary classical music, experimental sound, and live visual performance. Trained in both traditional performance and cutting-edge composition for film, television, and multimedia, her artistic voice blends the lyricism of the cello with the boundless possibilities of electronic processing, improvisation, and visual storytelling.
She holds a Master’s degree in Music Composition for Film and TV from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” (summa cum laude), where she deepened her research into orchestration, electronic sound design, electroacoustic composition, and immersive scoring for images. Her background also includes advanced cello studies at the Conservatorio “G.F. Ghedini” in Cuneo and ongoing specialization in electronic improvisation at the Conservatorio “G.B. Martini” in Bologna.
Her compositions range from acousmatic works and site-specific installations to original soundtracks and collaborative audiovisual projects. Among them: the short film Una stanza tutta per sé (2021), the video-performance Liberazione – Para Loop (2021), the site-based project Cuneo Popup (2023), the conceptual soundtrack album All’improvviso
An Imaginary Soundtrack (2024), and the acousmatic piece Tacto (2024). In 2024 she also created Spheres, an audiovisual performance where instrumental improvisation, real-time electronics, and projected visuals merge into a single immersive space.
Milena’s collaborative spirit has led her to work with artists such as Nicolás Jaar, Mette Henriette, and Johan Lindvall, and to perform in major festivals and venues across Europe and beyond, including Nuova Consonanza (Rome), Tempo Reale (Florence), and Curva Minore (Palermo). As a founding member of the Trio Astra, she has toured internationally, winning awards and performing in countries from France and Germany to China and Tasmania.
Her discography reflects this multifaceted identity, with releases such as Telas (2021, with Nicolás Jaar), Conductions – Live at Nuova Consonanza (2022), Yugen (2023), and All’improvviso – An Imaginary Soundtrack (2024).
